While it is not surprising that the Aviation White Paper rules out a 2nd Sydney Airport at Badgery’s creek, it deserves some plain talking about how this cripples Sydney’s future as a major centre for business and industry.
There will be no full scale second jet airport in Sydney. Nor is there any chance that a remote site, once selected, will effectively perform that role.
Sydney will choke. Sydneysiders know this already. Road, rail, ferry and port facility users know this. It is part of the reality of institutionalised incompetence in the affairs of the harbour city and the short electoral cycle attention span of the federal and state governments and local bodies.
